Free write.

This past weekend was a busy weekend. On Friday I went to the schools dance with my friends. I drove there so after the dance we picked up a friend that couldn't go to the dance because she had to babysit her cousins. and we went to some lonchera (food truck) down Soto. It's call Pecas. They have the best al pastor tacos EVER!!! Then, on Saturday I went to Alondra's with my friends, they have the best chicken wings EVER!!! It was really fun on Saturday because we ate so much it was like we had a food high after. We went to the mall after and go some candy. We were singing while going back home. After we went to a friends house for a bit. Then on Sunday I had a lacrosse tournament at Los Angeles Southwest College. It was really fun, we lost 2 game and won one. We got sent home after that.. I got home and I was super tired. I took a nap and then my boyfriend took me to eat a burger at Andy's. It was a good weekend. :)

Sportsmanship Project.

I just saw a video about this girl named, Sarah, who had never hit a home run in soft ball. But on day that changed. She hit the home run but sadly as she began to run, she injured her knee. The rules in softball is that none of your teammates can touch you. Kindly, two girls from the opponents team, Liz and Mallary, asked the umpire if they could carry her to all of her bases and so they did just that she the girl make her first home run! It was really sweet of them to do that. They had very good sportsmanship and it'll be cool if every athlete had that.
Sportsmanship is the key to have a good, fair and fun game while playing a sport that you enjoy. If people behaved with bad sportsmanship they will eventually get into fights. Where is the fun in that. If your opponent is behaving bad and being immature. Instead of saying an insulting word, use your skills and make a goal or touch down and win them with victory and pride that you played a fair and square game.
There was a girl in my team that would get mad with the referees if they called a bad call there was actually a time that you talked back to one and ended up getting a yellow card, meaning that we were one player down for 3 minutes. Eventually, we had to maker her understand that no matter what even if it was the worst call ever we just need to have the best sportsmanship and keep our mouths shut.
Sportsmanship isn’t just in sports it’s also in work, school, and everything else that involves competition. It’s unfortunate that many people envy on others that are doing better than them, if anything we should be proud and supportive that at least some one is making something of themselves.

The dumb walk out.

Everyone has their own opinion and I respect that, so please respect mine because I know that a lot of people are against the whole changes that will be happening to the school and those students aren't going to agree with what I am about to put here on my blog.
On May 10, 2011 there was suppose to be a sit-in in Belgrave court to protest against the changes that was planning to be made for the school. Those changes are things like, to make 5 different school, such as Libra Academy, inside Huntington Park, have all the teachers here at Huntington Park reapply to keep their jobs, and changing the schools name.
Some how, at the sit-in, it turned into a walk out and all the student walked all the way to downtown to the district building to protest. I am almost 100% positive that a little over half of those students that walked out went just because they didn't want to go to their other classes. Less then half of those students were truly passionate about protesting. I'll give you my reasons why I am for the changes:
Libra Academy is making way better test scores than all of Huntington Park put together. That's really embarrassing since Libra Academy is filled with pure freshmen and sophomores. If those schools that are going to be made as good as Libra Academy, I don't see why people are complaining!
A lot of the teachers that work here at Huntington Park don't do their jobs as teachers. There are less good teachers that there are bad. I'm not talking about personality wise, there are a bunch of cool as teachers here that pass you and that's why most of you student would like them to stay, but really did you learn anything? For those of the teachers that actually do their job, there shouldn't be any reason for them to not get their job back, so don't worry about that. But for other teachers that don't do there jobs, which I know all of you guys have had at least once, I hope they leave.
Other students are worried about the school's name, how it's sad that it's been called "Huntington Park High School" for over 100 years, "it's not fair." Who gives a rats ass about the name! It's not the name that will be taking you to college or what ever you wish to do with your life, it's the education that you are getting!
All I'm saying is that there are a bunch of students that are here for the wrong reasons, just to chill, to hang, and that needs to stop! There are a few students that I have in some classes that just sit there and do nothing, I only hope that the new changes will do just that. :)

My Vacations.

During my vacations I didn't do much, I had Lacrosse practice everyday. I couldn't really do anything in the mornings knowing that I had a time limit. Then after practice I would get out at 6 and by that time I took a shower or anything it'll be too late for my friends to do anything because they would have intercession the next day. All my games happened during vacation too. We won 5 games and lost 3. We beat Jordan and Manual Arts, We lost to Birmingham once and won the second game, and we lost both games to Pacific Palisades. The most memorable game was probably when we lost to Birmingham since I was really frustrating and disappointing, but I think I gave my all in that game. That's the game that I made that most shots. :) I didn't really hang out with any of my friends during vacations, I don't know why, but we promised our selfs that we wouldn't do it again. It felt too weird.. I also went to Disneyland for the first time. It was fun but it's not that big of a deal if I never go again, it's too expensive. :T

Personal Mission Statement

A personal statement is important because it helps to lead you to success and stay on the right track. There are a few steps to making a personal mission statement:
Step 1 - Identify your successes, and things that you like to do.
Step 2 - Identify your core values, the qualities that you have.
Step 3 - Identify your contributions, thing that you want to accomplish.
Step 4 - Identify your goals, short-term and long-term.
Step 5 - Write your personal mission statement.
A personal mission statement can help you in so many ways, in school, and in life! Without one, nothing might happen to you, but you'll be better off with one because then you will see what you have planned for your self and you will more than likely accomplish if you want to accomplish it.

Wellness, Health, and Fitness.

Wellness, health, and fitness are important in life because that’s how you get through life being happy. You need all three to be happy in life. You must do all three to enjoy life.
Wellness is things you do to take care of your body. For example, you shouldn’t smoke cigarettes because you will then be just asking to get lung cancer. You shouldn’t eat so much junk food because then you will cause a lot of fat to your body and then you are going to feel uncomfortable in your own skin and you will then get depressed. You shouldn’t abuse alcohol or you will harm your liver. Go to sleep on time so you can get your full 8 hours of sleep. If you lack on your sleep not only will you be late to school, work, or appointment, but you will also be very sleepy that you won’t even be able to concentrate in class or what ever else it is that you are doing, not only that but you will also end up getting dark bags underneath your eyes which are unattractive.
Health is another important thing in one’s life. Being healthy is staying away from being sick, from diseases and all that bad stuff. I don’t like getting a cold, I don’t know about you guys. Now imagine getting a bigger harder disease. Such as cancer, STDs, HIV, and AIDS. I know cancer is unfortunately something that people get without asking for it, most of the time. But other than that, why would you want to even risk your life getting a disease like that. I hate it when people get something that they could have prevented themselves and then cry about it later. I mean I know that it sucks but then again why would you do it in the first place. I think there is no excuse for something so silly.
Fitness is another important factor in life because imagine one day a friend asks you to go play basketball at the park one morning, so you decide to go and while you are playing you are running out of breath and losing focus and you can’t run up and down the court as quick as your other friends. I know I wouldn’t like that.
It’s hard to be in top shape, but everyone can go run a few laps every few days instead of sitting on our bed watching TV with all these bags of chips and candy around us.

Life is a delicious meal :P

I have always had an interest in cooking ever since I was a little girl, but that interest has been getting stronger and stronger now that I'm getting older and have to decide what I would like to do as a career for the rest of my life. I think I am going to go for it. I have to fulfill my dreams.

My Hobbies, My Interest.

I don’t really have that many interest or hobbies. But my main one would be lacrosse. Lacrosse is a sport that was first started by the natives to prepare them in war a long time ago. I love to play that sport because it’s a rush running down the field with the ball or to get it back from the opposite team. I have been playing it since my freshman year of high school and have been playing it since. This year is going to be my 3rd year playing it and it’s going to be my 1st year being a captain for the team. I’m not so excited to play this year because we have been very unorganized with everything. Our season started today and we are to behind on everything, our uniforms were suppose to be ordered last week and we haven’t even talked about them. This season is going to be really boring.
Some interest that I have is to become a chef. I love the way that when you mix a few ingredients together you can make a delicious edible treat or meal. I don’t really know if I want to become a chef as a career because of the fact that there is just so much competition. I would probably prefer to get another job and then maybe do cooking as a hobby once I get older when I have more free time.
Another thing that I like to do is study people, like wonder why someone is the way that they are. I remember taking a child development class here in high school and I found out that if you potty train a child to early in life that they can become too needy, too organized, and to try to be perfect when they get older. Also, when parents think that children need to be left alone when they get older to they can become independent is actually a really bad thing it actually makes it hard for that person to trust anyone when they become adults. Little things like that interest me.

Tyler Haws

I thought this video was really cool. It shows that every one needs to work hard for what they want. Things aren't going to be given to us. We need to want it in order to work hard and get it. As an 8 year old he got cut off a basketball team and his dad told him that if he wanted to go back in he would need to work hard to get it back and so they did. They both got up early in the morning and did what they had to do. He had to work almost all his life to get to where he is at right now. It's not like he just got up one morning and decided to just go and play basketball. No, he practiced and practiced and practiced and won't stop practicing. Cause like that famous quote says "practice makes perfect" :)

Jason McElwain

I have seen this video before. When I first saw it it made me tear up. I was actually the one who showed it to Mr. Haymore. In another video it shows that he had tried out for the team before but he didn't make so the coach let him be his assistant. Jason had only missed 1 game of the whole season and for the last game the coach decided to get let Jason wear a jersey. He wasn't planning on putting him in the game but for the last 4 minutes he decided to give Jason a chance to play. At first he was just hoping that Jason would make just one shot but at the end he ended up making 20 shots in just 4 minutes! He made the most shots than anyone that day! It's incredible, and very motivating :)

The meaning of my name.

My first name Jessica is origin Hebrew. It means Woman of Wealth, God Beholds, God sees. The name was invented by Shakespeare for the daughter of a Jewish merchant, Shylock, in his play 'The Merchant of Venice'. It would have been spelled Jescha in his time. It wasn't commonly used as a given name until the middle of the 20th century.
My last name is a common Hispanic surname bestowed on a person who lived on a riverbank. The Rivera surname can be traced back to Gonzalo Lopez de Rivera, Lord of the Castle of Rivera in Galicia in the 1200's. Some sources, however, claim that the Riveras are directed descendants of Sancho Belloso, natural-born son of the King of Leon, Ramiro III. Others, that the name dates back to ancient Roman times.

Bogues

I just finished watching a video about Muggsy Bogues. He was the shortest man to play in the NBA and to see the dedication that he put into playing was inspiring. As it is, all of the basketball players are tall and to see that he still gave it his all was really cool. I could picture that people must have given him a lot of stress for being really short, such as "you'll never make it to the NBA." But the fact that he still tried, and he made it is amazing! He is someone that I can say inspires me a little in life now.

Freedom

Freedom is a powerful thing. With freedom you can do about anything you want. Because of that you must learn to control it, freedom is a privilege so you shouldn’t abuse it. Some people just don’t get that though they think that they can do what ever they want but in reality there are law around it and they can get arrested if they get out of hand.
Rapist or murders out there they live in America “the land of the free” they have lots or freedom here in America but because they decided to CTW, choose the wrong, they got arrested and they are getting punished for it for the rest of their lives. They have to live in a little cage now. Which is where they belong! Another example of people that choose the wrong are people that are racist. They have no reason to judge people for other peoples race. We are all animals that live in this earth and we all deserve to be treated equally.
Some one who chose the right was Martin Luther King. He wasn’t satisfied with how the color people were still being treated, and so he decided to become a leader and fight for his rights with words not with riots and stuff. He was a strong leader and he helped get the colored people get the rights they deserved. He is someone who truly chose the right.

“Our ancestors worked hard to get the freedom that we have now, so we must enjoy it while it last”

My boyfriend.

Alberto Magdaleno, he is the young man that I have spent a little over two years of my life with now. I have been with him since new years of ’09. It all started in his birthday. He is my older sisters friend, so when she went to Hooters to celebrate his 17th birthday she took me along. At that time I didn’t talk to him I just knew who he was. So when he hugged me to thank me for being there I felt a sudden chemistry. However, I don’t know if he did, too at that time, lol. A few weeks and little get together passed and with time I started to grow a little crush for him. One day a friend of my sisters, Nattie, texted me telling me that Alberto, a.k.a. Beto, wanted to know if he could have my number. I said yes without even thinking and we started talking. Eventually, time passed and we realized that we needed to tell my sister was even okay with her little sister talking to one of her friends. Some how the day that she said it was okay. A friend of theirs told my sister that Beto and I have been talking and that got her upset. Luckily, she became okay with it because she realized that we really did like each other.
With time he asked me to be his girlfriend on new years day of 2009 and haven’t broken up since. Each and every day I seem to have the same love for him since the day that I met him. I hope it never changes. He is truly a great guy that I hope to have with me for the rest of my life, even if it means that we are just friends.

My weekend :)

So today I just found out that we aren't coming to school on Monday! If it wasn't for my friend Carlos mentioning it during 1st block. My dumb a** would have probably came on Monday! :'D Well today my cousin is coming from Las Vegas to visit. I also think that her boyfriend is coming and that he is going to get a tattoo while he's over here. Today is also my friends birthday celebration, her actual birthday was on tuesday, but we're all going to Norms today. The funny thing is that she doesn't know where Norms is even at! On Saturday I am going to go hiking with my boyfriend! He is saying that he is letting himself go and that he needs to start working out and I offered to join him, because I have also let myself go a bit. :(
On Sunday, all of my friends are going to have a movie night at my friend Maria's house. We might watch Catfish, it looks like an intense movie, I'm excited!
Who knows what I might do on Monday. Time will tell. Long weekend here I come! :)
